Individual Dog Training at Pender Pet Retreat

Meet our Head Trainer: Ashley Mosca, CPDT-KA, CPACM

If you’ve used our daycare services, you’ve seen Ashley out in the yard working with the dogs and likely talked to her about your pup’s temperament evaluation. Ashley started at Pender Pet Retreat in 2017 and her interest in dog behavior has only grown since then. She specializes in puppy training and basic obedience work. Her training beliefs center around a strong relationship between dog and human through proper communication.

Ashley studied at Valor K9’s training program in Boise, Idaho to learn directly from one of her inspirations in the dog training world, Amy Pishner. After her training program, Ashley received her trainer’s certification from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. Additionally, Ashley is a Fear Free Certified Professional, a Certified Professional Animal Care Manager (PACCC-CPACM), and is Pet Tech CPR & First Aid certified. She also regularly attends seminars to educate herself and stay up-to-date with the latest training and pet care information.

Ashley has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and enjoys working out and personal training in her free time. Originally from New Jersey, Ashley and a few other Pender Pet Retreat employees live in Ashburn, VA. She has a shepherd mix Winnie, who she rescued about 5 years ago, that accompanies her to work daily.

Training Programs

Pender Puppy PackThe Pender Puppy Pack is for puppies aging from 12-20 weeks old and is a 3 day per week program for four weeks. This program focuses on socialization, potty training, crate training, and puppy play time! The Pender Puppy Pack includes daily training updates, AKC STAR Puppy book, weekly homework, and communication with Ashley.

Day School TrainingDay School Training is just like it sounds and occurs daily, Monday- Friday, for two or three weeks. Each pup’s program length will be determined during an initial free consultation with Ashley. Day School focuses on sit, down, place, and leash manners. Homework assignments will be sent for you to continue training reinforcement at home in between sessions and an end-of-school private training session is included.

Board & Train BootcampIn our most intensive option, your pup will stay with us at the Pet Retreat for at least 3 weeks while being trained with consistent reinforcement, then sent home an improved member of the family. Training includes name recognition, sit, down, place, recall, loose leash walking, leave it, and crate training skills. Specific behavioral issues require a customized Board & Train package and can be discussed with Ashley on a case-by-case basis.

Refresher Training – Sometimes we all need a little refresher! For pups that have received formal training previously, either with us or elsewhere.
